SAFETY COUNCIL CHARTER

Charter:  The council will encourage a proactive approach toward South Carolina’s aviation industry safety awareness by actively involving industry leaders and their representatives throughout the state. It will be the umbrella under which all safety initiatives will operate. The council is established to facilitate a cultural change rather than staff a program.

Composition:  The council will consist of South Carolina aviation industry representatives.  A quorum will consist of five members; including either the chairperson or vice chairperson.

Term:  The acting members of the council will elect the chairperson for a two-year term.  The term will begin on the first day of October of the year in which he or she is elected and will expire on the last day of September two years later.

The acting members of the council will elect the vice-chairperson for a two-year term.  The term will begin on the first day of March of the year that he or she is elected and will expire on the last day of February two years later.

Elections will be held during the last meeting of the quarter prior to October or March of the year that the term expires.

Mission Statement: The South Carolina Aviation Safety Council (SCASC) is dedicated to changing the conscious attitudes and behavioral awareness toward aviation safety in South Carolina.  We believe by making aviation safety a “first priority” and spreading that attitude and awareness, we can make a positive change toward a safer tomorrow.

Duties of the Council:  Develop, organize, educate, and implement safety awareness initiatives that address issues and concerns throughout South Carolina’s aviation community.

The council will assimilate, analyze, and share aviation safety related data with industry leaders and professionals to determine actions that can be taken to improve safety and awareness.
